When One Door Closes

July 27, 2016

Hello avid followers and talented ladies!

I’m going to start this off with a great quote.

What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it.

When I took over Light Inspired 2 1/2 years ago I was so excited to expand this community of supportive women photographers across the world. Some of my dearest friendships are with these women I’ve met whether just online or through our retreats over the years and I am forever grateful to call them my talented friends. I am at a time right now in my life where I am realizing what is most important, and that is family.

Now to get to the nitty-gritty. When it comes down to it, I just want to focus on being a good person and living a good life. I don’t want to be just a good photographer, not just a good mentor, not just a good editor, not just a good blogger. I just want to be a good person. I am not perfect by any means, but I want to teach my children what is important in life and I want to teach them to love what they do and do what they love. Part of teaching them this is to follow that advice myself. So with that in mind, instead of working endless hours on Light Inspired posting to social media, writing blog posts, planning events, handling back end emails, and writing e-books… I will be riding bikes with my kids, taking their pictures for once, watching netflix cuddled up with my family, and enjoying this relatively short time we have together before they go off to college.  When I announced this change with my team, Jessica Mielke showed me this story that puts my mind at ease more and more with this decision.  It’s about time and how precious our time is that we have left on this Earth even given the best circumstance of living until we are 90.  I urge you all to take a look at this and adjust your life accordingly!

The forum will remain open until the last membership expires. At that time or before then, I would invite you to become part of our free Facebook group where we can stay connected. I will not be advertising or pushing people to join this group or acting as a police for this group, but if you would like a way to connect with these Light Inspired women photographers from around the world, please feel free to join.  In this group you can connect with others, ask for advice, and watch for upcoming retreats.  Owning a business is hard, right?  I know all of your entrepreneurial minded women out there will agree that owning a business AND raising children is the hardest thing ever.  I like to say that I have 6 kids- my 3 real life kids ages 6,4, and 1 as well as 3 businesses- my birth photography biz, Light Inspired, and Goods Inspired.  To say that I overwhelmed myself with responsibility would be an understatement.  So along with changing the direction to Light Inspired, I am no longer taking on new birth clients so I will not be on call 24/7 on top of other commitments.  This is such a huge change for me, but one that I already feel lighter with.  Sally shared a good article on LI last week about the mental cost of owning a business that I recommend each business owner read.

With all of this in mind, I am continuing Goods Inspired which is an inspirational shirt line. These shirts have the simple truths on them which I hope get ingrained in my children’s minds.

You are enough. You are brave. You are unbreakable.
Be You. Be Kind. Be Humble.

It is with the deepest humility that I thank you all for your support over the years and hope that you all have continued success in all that you do. I would especially like to thank all those behind the scenes at LI, especially Sally Sosler for being my biggest cheerleader. Thank you to all our amazing blog writers and social media experts for helping to grow LI to the level it has gotten to. I sincerely appreciate you and all your efforts.  I hope to see you in our new group!

Much love,
Stacey
