Let’s start with a big question.  Why do you love doing what you do?
I really love creating, but after doing this for almost 10 years, I have figured out that I love it most because of the feeling I get working with my clients. Being a part of their lives and creating something for them is why I love it so much.
How did you start in photography?
My dad gave me a Pentax when I was 13, so my sisters and I would get all dolled up and go model for each other in fields and by train tracks. It’s pretty funny looking back, but I was hooked right away.

When did you decide that you should be in business?
I was shooting weddings for friends and family and it was taking so much time, so I decided to start charging. After that I realized that I could start my own business and do what I love.

Do you have 3 pieces of advice to those who are just starting a photography business?
1. Don’t overthink it. Shoot what you love and don’t let the millions of “rules” that people have put into place stop you from finding your own style.
2. Shoot everyday. The best way to learn is to shoot as much as possible.
3. Create boundaries. You will start to hate running your business if you let people continuously take advantage of you. You are in control.
What are 3 words that describe your shooting style?
Free Spirited. Fun. Natural.

When did you feel like you had established your own style?
Probably 3 or 4 years ago I decided I wanted to mainly photograph families because most people were willing to invest more money in a family session that just a children’s portrait session. I decided I did not want to be a run of the mill
family photographer, so I worked really hard to be the best in my area for family portraiture.

How many shoots do you average per year?
100-120, Usually I shoot 2 times per week. Although, I take off January and most of December. I shoot a ton in Sept, Oct, & Nov.
What’s in your camera bag?
Nikon D800
Nikon 35mm 1.4
Nikon 50mm 1.4
Nikon 85mm 1.4

What’s next on your “want list” for camera gear?
Hmmmm, I am not sure yet, I am pretty happy with the lenses I have. I did love the 70-200 as well, but just didn’t use it as much as I thought I would. I shoot pretty wide now with family sessions.

If you could choose any photographer to take your photo, who would that be?
Elizabeth Messina. I have a girl crush on her. Her style is so different from mine, but I love it.

Is there a certain type of photography that you dread doing or refuse to do?
Extended family!! It’s my worst nightmare. It NEVER goes smoothly and I never make enough money to make it worth it.
Is there anything on your photography bucket list that you’re dying to do?
Video, I am trying and learning now, but we shall see if I incorporate it into my business!
What is your favorite way to get your clients relaxed in front of the camera?
I act like a crazy person, which in turn allows them to relax. I really try to have fun with them, I will dance, tell lame jokes, whatever it takes! I can read people pretty well, which helps in my line of work. I can tell if I am annoying them, pushing them too far,
etc, and I will change things up if necessary.
Now to get to know you a little more personally, let’s do some fill in the blank!

The 1 thing I can’t live without on a daily basis is _coffee_.
If I wasn’t a photographer, I would have been a _kids clothing designer _.
On Friday night, you’ll find me _hanging out with my family or out on a date with my hubby_.
My celebrity crush is definitely _PAUL RUDD (funny and cute!)_.
A movie I could watch over and over is _Girls just wanna have fun _.
The first thing I would do if I won the lottery is _TRAVEL for a long time_.
My friends would describe me as _a goofball_.
